NORTHEAST REGIONAL SNAPSHOT

AUGUST / SEPTEMBER

Planning for Affordable, Reliable Energy

States across the Northeast are preparing for winter while looking for ways to improve reliability and manage energy costs. Connecticut is developing a new comprehensive energy strategy focused on affordability, reliability, and clean energy, while Maine completed a study examining future transmission needs as electricity demand and market conditions change.

Addressing Transmission Costs

ISO New England filed with federal regulators to establish an independent review process for certain transmission projects, following requests from New England states and regional stakeholders. The effort comes as policymakers seek greater oversight of transmission investments and their impact on consumer electricity costs.

Data Centers & Consumer Costs

Data center development is receiving increased attention across the region. In Massachusetts, Governor Maura Healey issued an executive order establishing new requirements for data center development, including protections intended to prevent existing customers from bearing related infrastructure costs. In Connecticut, policymakers are also debating the state's approach to data centers, including whether existing tax incentives should continue.
